I've always dreamed of being the next Lisa Frank... heaven knows how many hours I spent fawning over her folders in my trapper keeper as a kid... oggling at the sheer squee-power of her work.

Anyways, about a year ago, I found a few printers that would *gasp* print out really nice custom vinyl stickers! HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY! So since then I've been designing and printing random whimsical designs that pop out of my head. Mostly for my own amusement. But surprisingly I've been getting constant sales on my Etsy shop.

Nerd Bling

One of the perks of my job is I'm allowed to wear essentially whatever I want... we have a joke that we can't have Casual Fridays because, well, if it got any more casual in here, we'd have guys walking around with no pants on...

Anywaysssss, I have a weakness for fab necklaces and earrings, and I've been searching for a pair of USB symbol earrings for a few months now, not actual useable pieces, but just of the symbol itself. And lo, a few weeks ago I found these on Etsy, and now they're happily dangling from my earlobes! Not only am I allowed to wear such fine designs, but my compadres usually get the reference. Its a wonderful win-win.

So part of my job is to wireframe out screens to help the team figure out the cleanest user experience when playing our games. This means sometimes I have to lay out a block of text that isn't written yet. Secretly I love this part of my day because I can write a slew of random awesome, that will never actually make it into the game, but will briefly amuse myself, the engineers and project managers.

Magical nuggets that are in my current comps include:

Valentine the Turtle

Being a very very crafty person, I absolutely love holidays because it gives me a somewhat reasonable explanation for why my living room is buried under a pile of glitter, ribbon and yarn.

I've always loved Valentines Day. Regardless of my relationship status, I've always seen it as a day to be happy for all the wonderful people in my life; friends, family, fluffy pets... So I always look forward to that time after the mega gauntlet of Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years, when I can dive into full uber-girly crafting :)

So my first cutesy craft of the Valentines season is a needle-felted turtle:

Needle felting is still a craft in its infancy, so I feel a slight smugness working with a media that isn't commonly used yet. But holy cow is it fun!

Welcome to the ramblings from a lady in the games industry!

Like many people, I usually have come up with noble and grandiose resolutions for the New Year – lose weight, get in shape, write and illustrate a graphic novel, find a boy, the usual. And like many people, these resolutions last approximately four days before I throw them out the window to make room for more pie and video games.

So this year, I’m trying things a bit different and instead of resolving to DO xyz things, I want to strive to  remember and appreciate them.

Not sure entirely what direction this blog will go, but I can promise it'll be a fantastically girly nerdy ride, so buckle up!
